Once a year, on the 17th of March, the world turns green to pay tribute to Saint Patrick, Ireland’s national apostle and patron. What began in the early 1900s as a religious holiday has since evolved into a global festivity to celebrate Irish culture, often by joining one of the countless St. Paddy’s Day parties or parades.
And though not yet similar to Christmas or Valentine’s Day, St. Paddy’s Day is ramping up to be a great business opportunity for retailers across the globe. A study by Fundivo, a company that connects businesses to lenders, into behavior of the American public on March 17 estimates they will spend about 4,6 billion dollars on celebrating St. Paddy’s this year.
